About Me

Suresh Nayar graduated from Government Dental College in Calicut in Kerala, India in 1993.  This was followed by a short period in general practice before he was successful in obtaining a merit seat for post graduation at the prestigious College of Dental Sciences at the Manipal University in India.  After post-graduation, he worked as a Senior Lecturer in a dental school in Bangalore where he honed his teaching skills.  Subsequently he had a stint as a specialist Prosthodontist in the Middle East before joining as a Senior House Officer in Maxillofacial surgery in Shrewsbury, UK.  He then moved to Morriston, Swansea where he worked at the Dept of Restorative Dentistry as a Senior House Officer.  During this time he was awarded the Membership Diploma of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.   He gained competitive entry into specialist training in Restorative Dentistry at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, Sheffield.  During his training, he was awarded the Membership Diplomas in Restorative Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.  He passed the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and gained entry into the GDC specialist lists.  

After completion of specialist training, he was appointed as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Oral rehabilitation at the Hull And East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust in 2009.  His current clinical remit includes the management and restorative rehabilitation of patients with Head and Neck Oncology and management of patients with congenital and developmental deformities.  This is carried out in conjunction with multidisciplinary involvement from other specialties such as Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, Clinical Oncology, ENT and Plastic Surgery.

At the same time he was also appointed as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Consultant at the School of Clinical Dentistry in Sheffield where he teaches and trains undergraduate students and undertakes treatment planning for patients with advanced and complex restorative needs.  He is an examiner for the Dental Membership Diploma (MJDF) of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and for the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE) conducted by the General Dental Council (GDC).

He is on the GDC ( www.gdc-uk.org ) specialist list for Endodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics and Restorative Dentistry. 

On the management front, he is the Honorary Secretary of the British Society for the Study of Prosthetic Dentistry (BSSPD – www.bsspd.org ).  He is also the Honorary Web Editor of the European Prosthodontic Association (EPA – www.epadental.org ).  He is a member of the British Endodontic Society, British Society of Periodontology, Association of Consultants and Specialists in Restorative Dentistry and the British Dental Association.  He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.  He is also a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

His research interests consist in improving the quality of life for head and neck cancer patients post surgery and post radiotherapy.  He is currently carrying out an MPhil research project at the University of Sheffield looking at the properties of composite dental materials.

Finally he likes to think that his spare time is spent with his wife and 6yr old daughter in that order; however in reality it is mostly spent with his daughter!!!
